INTRODUCTION

Durango is a good place to vacation, especially for people that love nature.  Durango has spectacular scenery, Old West flavor, and wonderful activities and entertainment.  It is located in southwest Colorado.  It is almost 400 miles from Denver, and it has wonderful weather.  Also, its people are very kind and hospitable.  For this vacation,  recommend 3 days.

Spectacular Scenery and Old West Flavor

Traveling on train from Durango to Silverton   This is an unforgettable adventure.  You will enjoy seeing wildlife, tall mountains, the Animas River, beautiful animals and the old small town of Silverton. The trip is on an old train. It has an engine that is steam-powered. 

You only need one day to have this spectacular experience that takes you back when miners produced silver 150 years ago. The cost is about $60 per person.

Activities and Entertainment

Theater. The actors tell about life in American past. You will enjoy it a lot. The cost is approximately $45 a person. The presentations are in the Durango’s Historic Strater Hotel, every night. You should make your reservations when you arrive to Durango.

Going Shopping.  In Durango you find stores within downtown that offer you amazing silver jewelry, fashion, and accessories.  There, also you can look for special furniture produced in leather. There are special stores for visiting, such as La Plata Gifts, The Jewelry Works, Animas Quits, Mountain Treasures, etc.

Restaurants. Durango possesses many places for eating. They offer you a variety of foods. You find American, Mexican, Oriental, French, Italian, and fast-food restaurants. The prices are between $5 for a hamburger to $40 for a meal.

Hotels and Campgrounds. The hotels are beautiful and comfortable, but expensive.  You can pay an average of $250 a night. The most famous hotel is the “Durango’s Historic Strater”. In contrast, you have another option for sleeping in Durango: the “campgrounds”.  These have a cost between $15 and $25 a night. You will have a wonderful experience within the forest. You are going to wake up with the song of birds.

HOW DO YOU ARRIVE TO DURANGO?

Durango is 6 hours from Denver, when you are driving  65 miles an hour. The route  is mountainous, has curvy routes and possesses amazing views that you enjoy a lot.  Also you pass several beautiful places, where you can stop to eat or rest, like Colorado Springs, Lake City, and beautiful parks.  

For arriving to Durango, first you should take I-25 south towards Colorado Springs. You keep on I-25 until the town of Walsenburg, which is about 2½ hours. When you arrive to Walsenburg, the next thing is to turn right and take 160 west. This route will take you to downtown Durango.
